Musim hujan seperti ini, virus flu mudah sekali menyebar. Sebuah studi baru dari University of Maryland menunjukkan bahwa virus flu menyebar tidak melulu melalui bersin atau batuk tapi juga lewat hanya pernapasan.<\/p>\n

Anda pasti sudah tahu bahwa sakit flu bisa dicegah dengan vaksinasi dan rajin mencuci tangan. Namun kini, orang-orang melangkah lebih jauh demi mencegah flu, yaitu dengan memakai masker yang biasa dipakai dokter kala operasi (masker bedah).<\/p>\n

Pertanyaannya, benarkah memakai masker bedah bisa membantu mencegah penularan flu?<\/p>\n

“Ya, bisa,” kata Dr. SherifMossad, seorang spesialis penyakit menular di Klinik Cleveland. Virus flu menular lewat udara dan masker, secara mekanis, bisa membantu virus ini menyerang orang lain. Masker bedah mencegah penularan virus flu dengan dua cara, mencegah virus flu menyerang orang lain dan mencegah penderita menyebarkan virusnya ke orang lain. Jadi, masker bisa dipakai untuk orang sehat yang sedang menghindari virus flu dan orang yang sedang sakit flu.<\/p>\n

\u201cPilih masker sekali pakai dan pastikan kemasannya tidak rusak,”pesan Dr. Susan Besser, seorang dokter kedokteran keluarga di Mercy Personal Physicians di Baltimore, Maryland. “Masker sekali pakai adalah yang terbaik.\u00a0 Setelah dipakai, masker akan menjadi kotor dan mungkin penuh kuman. Itu sebabnya, Anda harus langsung membuangnya.”<\/p>\n

Ingat juga, masker tidak 100% efektif melindungi Anda dari serangan flu. Anda harus melengkapi diri dengan strategi lainnya. Rajin mencuci tangan adalah strategi nomor satu,” kata Besser. Kemudian, dapatkan vaksinasi flu dan tutup hidung dan mulut saat Anda batuk atau bersin (dengan lekukan lengan bukan dengan tangan Anda).<\/p>\n
